The Laboratory for Performing Arts and Digitality in Neustrelitz is a transdisciplinary development center at the intersection of performing arts, music, and digital technology. It was founded by the Association for Culture, Environment, and Communication – Sociocultural Center Alte Kachelofenfabrik Neustrelitz e.V. (VfKK. e.V.) with the support of the Ministry of Science, Culture, Federal and European Affairs of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. Under the leadership of physicist and video choreographer Dr. Marcus Doering, as well as director and choreographer Lars Scheibner, the laboratory has been developing and realizing new forms of digital experience in the context of artistic event formats since 2020.

The laboratory designs and implements innovative performance formats, research projects, and educational offerings, while also serving as a regional competence center for digital stage practice in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. The real and sustainable applicability of digital innovation in daily artistic and show operations is crucial to our work. In close collaboration with software developer André Bernhardt, both existing components are continuously improved and new applications are created.
In workshops, seminars, and project collaborations, artists, cultural institutions, and educational organizations are empowered to integrate digital technologies independently into their artistic work. The infrastructure is not only available for our own productions but is also made accessible as an open platform for regional stakeholders.

Through collaborations with supraregional partners such as the Dachverband Tanz Deutschland e.V., the Bauhaus Dessau Foundation, and the Theater Dortmund, the innovative strength of the location has already gained national visibility. At the same time, the laboratory remains firmly rooted in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and sustainably strengthens digital cultural competence there.
